Moa Tv for Android

Android comes in two shapes: remote-controlled boxes and televisions, which get TiviMate Premium, and touch-screen phones and tablets, which get a mobile player using the same details.

Few platforms give Moa Tv as many options as Android, but the word covers two quite different kinds of hardware. Remote-controlled devices and touch-screen devices need different apps, so it helps to know which one you’re setting up.

On the TV: Google TV and Android TV boxes

Boxes and sticks built on Google’s television software use TiviMate, our recommended player for the big screen. Get it from Google Play, unlock Premium using the TiviMate account included with your plan, then type in your Moa Tv details. The TiviMate page explains what Premium adds.

Some devices that work particularly well:

  • Google TV Streamer: quick, simple and 4K-ready, with an Ethernet port. Our Google TV Streamer guide covers setup.
  • NVIDIA Shield TV: older but still powerful, with smooth 4K and room for recordings; see the Shield guide.
  • Boxes from established brands that carry Google’s certification and get regular updates.

Unbranded boxes sold with modified software are best avoided: performance is usually poor, updates seldom arrive, and some are a security risk on a home network.

In your hand: phones and tablets

TiviMate is built around a remote, not fingers, so handheld devices need a mobile player that signs in with Xtream Codes; the welcome email names one we’re happy with right now. Live TV, listings and the catalogue all come across, resized for the smaller display. The Android install guide shows the steps.

Watching away from Wi-Fi

Moa Tv works on mobile data, but video adds up quickly: an hour of HD typically takes one to three gigabytes, and Full HD more. On a capped plan, choose a lower quality in the player and keep big matches for Wi-Fi. Our article on Moa Tv data use has a full table.

Casting to the TV

Some mobile players can cast to a Chromecast or Google TV device. It works, but for live channels the picture is smoother when the app runs on the TV device itself.

Android questions

Can I run TiviMate on my phone?

It’s built for television and isn’t designed for touch screens. A mobile player gives a far better experience on a phone or tablet.

Can my tablet play while the TV is on?

Only on a plan with at least two devices. On a single-device plan they take turns.

Is a cheap unbranded Android box good enough?

Sometimes, but it’s a gamble. A certified box from a known brand gets security updates and runs TiviMate more reliably.
