Not every evening calls for a match or a two-hour film. The entertainment group is for the rest: music videos and concerts, nature and history programmes, travel and cookery shows, and the quiz and game show channels that are pleasant company in the background.
A quick tour
- Music. Video channels, live performances and chart countdowns, the kind of thing that works well with friends round.
- Factual. Wildlife, history, science and true crime, presented as scheduled programmes rather than a library. For factual titles you can start at any time, see documentaries.
- Travel and food. Short segments you can join at any point, from street food to long train journeys.
- Light entertainment. Quizzes, game shows, talent contests and panel shows.
Channels that work in the background
Plenty of people use this group while they cook, work from home or tidy up. Two tips make it more pleasant: turn on your TV’s sleep timer if you tend to doze off in front of it, and put your two or three go-to channels in favourites so you can switch between them without opening the guide.
Better sound for music channels
Concerts and music channels are where a soundbar or home cinema system pays off. On most streaming devices the audio output should be left on automatic, so the device sends the best format your system accepts. If you hear no sound through the soundbar, try setting the output to stereo (PCM) as a test, then change it back once the cause is found.
Keeping the guide tidy
The entertainment group is broad, so it is the one most worth trimming. Hide the channels you never watch, keep the rest in a favourites list and the TV guide becomes a short, readable page instead of an endless scroll. For a whole-guide clean-up, see how the live TV groups are arranged.
